In a new article published this month in Trends in Cancer, the TIME Lab explores immunomechanics in the peritumor microenvironment in collaboration with the Nia and Grinstaff labs at Boston University. Co-led by TIME Lab graduate student Julian Najera, this paper highlights four physical hallmarks of cancer that are largely unexplored for their role in modulating tumor immunity, particularly in the tumor-adjacent tissue. We propose avenues for modulating immunomechanics in the peritumor region in order to enhance cancer immunotherapy outcomes. This collaborative review highlights the importance of considering immunomechanical dynamics not only within the tumor but around it as well.
