In a new review article in Trends in Molecular Medicine, TIME Lab authors discuss how preclinical research over the last decade has leveraged insights from cancer therapy to inform host-directed therapies for tuberculosis. Much of the examples provided are based on research TIME Lab Director, Prof. Meenal Datta, performed as a graduate student and postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, in collaboration with TB experts at the National Institutes of Health. This includes leveraging antiangiogenic and antifibrotic therapy to reprogram TB granulomas much in the way the tumor microenvironment has been reprogrammed.
