This month at the AACR Special Conference on Brain Cancer, TIME Lab postdoctoral researcher Dr. Golnaz Asaadi Tehrani presented on her efforts to uncover the epigenetic landscape of glioblastoma tumors. Using 2-D and 3-D models of this incurable brain cancer, Golnaz has been exploring the role of histone deacetylases (HDACs) in mediating resistance to chemotherapies, as well as the ability of epigenetic inhibitors to overcome these resistance mechanisms and sensitize glioblastoma cancer cells to the standard of care. Ongoing animal studies will confirm the safety, efficacy, and translatability of this combinatorial therapeutic approach.
